Since Hemingways first opened its doors in February 2010 we have endeavoured to create a warm inviting atmosphere that people really feel is their "home from home" when they are out and about in Haslemere town. We think we've succeeded! In addition to serving a fabulous range of hot and cold drinks (including alcohol for those tempted by something stronger than a latte!) and a huge array of freshly made scrumptious food to suit any time of the day, we also provide a welcoming space for anybody and everybody to just chill out and be!

Hemingways is a place of congregation, communication and celebration, where mothers and babies are as at home as business people tapping on their laptops. Whether you are alone reflecting on life or engaged in endless people watching, meeting friends and family or enjoying a romantic catch up, you'll feel comfortable and at ease.
Sourced locally
Sourcing locally is important to us. We can't buy all our supplies from our doorstep, but we can certainly try to as much as possible. The majority of our milk is from a local dairy, our cakes are all sourced locally, our fruit and veg from a local supplier. If someone manages to grow tea and coffee we'd be delighted...if not a little surprised!
Vegan, vegetarian, lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant...? We've got you covered!
From a range of milk (almond, oat, coconut, soya...we even still do cow's milk!) to the most scrumptious gluten-free cakes, vegan sausages and so much more, we have your tastes and dietary requirements covered.
We have a huge range of vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options on both our drinks and food menu. All sources to make sure that all your dietary requirements are catered for and none of the taste compromised! Our special diet ranges are so good...everyone eats and drinks them...requirement or not!
Part of the community
For the past nine years, Hemingways has forged incredibly strong links with the local community. Not just the obvious role of a local coffee shop and restaurant to keep the town's people well nourished and lubricated, but a huge involvement in hosting events with or for many local organisations such as Haslemere Chamber of Commerce, The Haslemere Fringe committee, all number of local schools, Haslemere Hospital, the Town Council, local charities, and many other local organisations. If you are part of a local non-profit organisation and would like to work with Hemingways on a project then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us and we will endeavour to accommodate. Haslemere and surrounding villages is a very special community and we value our ties with it and are very proud to be a part of it and a central meeting place for it.
Hemingways food and drink
All food is freshly prepared on the premises and our tiny kitchen manages to produce a huge menu with something to appeal to all ages, tastes and tolerances (vegetarian, vegan, gluten, but, dairy etc. intolerant are all catered for). Each dish is lovingly (albeit speedily) prepared by our fastidious kitchen staff and only the finest (mostly local) ingredients are used.
The cakes are all homemade by Sue who has been baking our cakes and tray bakes since we opened. The cakes are too numerous and ever changing to list in our menu, but are displayed on the counter, and create a gauntlet of temptation difficult to ignore! We always have an excellent choice of gluten-free options, and even a mouth-watering dairy free chocolate cake!
Our coffees are made with roasted aromatic Arabica beans and crafted by our fully trained baristas. And for those with varying milk preferences...we think we have you covered. We offer locally produced whole milk and skimmed milk, as well as oat, soya, almond and coconut! If you can't find any of them to your liking, there's always Black! :)
With hot chocolate to die for (fully loaded is a meal in itself!) and a range of over thirty teas including fruits and herbal infusions, Chai lattes and hot toddies (when it's chilly), we are sure we have something for you to cup lovingly in your hands.
Outside seating area
A hugely popular part of Hemingways is out outside seating area. No matter what time of year, come sunshine, rain or snow, our brightly parasoled outdoor seating area is always used.
This comfortable front terrace is a marvellous sun trap in the spring and summer months and has full infrared overhead heating and incredibly cosy fleece blankets to keep you toastie and warm for all those cooler times of the year.
It creates a wonderful space to watch the hustle and bustle of Haslemere go by, to your drinks and food al fresco, and still be part of the throng of Hemingways, whilst taking in the fresh air.
